1. What was your reaction to the text you just read?

My reaction to the text was awe from the art of the comic it is in a style that i find particularly pleasing. It seems like a mix between manga and American comics. I really like that the story is set in a sort of Wild West time line something I think adds a lot to the story. I also really like the hook of this story, it starts off by having two narrators, referred to as 'bunny' and 'butterfly', introduce the story. I think this is a really great way to start the story because then the reader will want to know who is introducing the story to us, who are they? How do they know this story? Is it a real story in their world? etc. I also like the two main characters of volume one, I wanted to know more about them as soon as I was introduced to them. All the characters are very mysterious which I think can easily be a good thing and lead the viewer to want to know more and buy your next volume. All in all, I would actually like to finish reading Pretty Deadly and would look for other things done by the authors.

2. What connections did you make with the story?

I connected as a woman with the author herself. I find that I enjoy more and more reading things done by other women because I feel like I can relate to them more. In the story she included a man harassing the character Sissy which I know personally is a very common experience for many women. I feel like had this story been written by a man they would most likely not having included such an instance. It even feels like an actual experience that many women go through, where the men who perpetrate this behavior feel like the woman he is forcing himself upon should be grateful. The male character hands Sissy some coins and expects her to take it and be pleased about their interaction.

On a different note, I possibly have made a connection to whom the characters narrating the beginning of the story are.  I think they could be just narrators and only narrators with no real purpose to the story other than to get the ball rolling or they could be Death and Ginny. I think the latter is what I lean more towards because they seem to know and be connected intimately with the story. I also think this is the case because Death is the caretaker of Ginny and they talk like a parent and child would, one asking the other for a story.

3. What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium?

I would most likely adapt this story into a film because that is what I am most interested in. I would change the costuming first and foremost. The characters in this story are really cool and mysterious looking characters but in order for the actors and costuming department to make it work there would have to be adaptations. And one of the characters has outlines on their face that make the up the outline of a skull and I feel like if that were to be on screen that could easily come across as goofy on a human rather than intimidating. Same with the character Death, he has a literal skull for a head and I think with many studios relying on CGI that could come across as overly fake and un-intimidating. There would also have to likely be slight changes or cuts to parts in the story but as I have only read the first volume that would be hard to comment on.
